Dmitry Larionov

Film Editor & Trainer

About me

Film Editor

After graduating from the Russian Cinema University (major in Film Editing), I worked as an editor for more than seven years and edited a number of feature films for various film studios, one 3D animation feature, as well as trailers, short films and documentaries.

Avid Certified Instructor, Level 2

I started my editing career on Avid Xpress Pro, then moved to Apple Final Cut Pro. From 2009 and later on, I slowly drifted back to Avid editing platforms. It provided me with all the tools I needed, and by 2012 it has become my main editing system. So it seemed logical to get certified on it, and I later became an Avid Instructor.

Apple Certified Master Trainer, Level 2

I’m a freelance trainer in editing, motion graphics and illustration. I used to work for two major Apple Authorized Training Centers in Moscow, Russia, before moving to Los Angeles.

I taught editing and editing systems (Final Cut Pro, Avid, Premiere, Edius) to major Russian TV channels, including the 1st Channel (National Broadcaster), the Russia Channel, TV-3, MuzTV, Zvezda. I also trained editors for a number of film studios.

I also developed my short theoretical course on the film editing, based on my personal experience. You can see all the courses I'm certified to teach on this courses page. See all my certificates on my certificates page.

Adobe Certified Instructor

I'm a certified Adobe Master Instructor (i.e. "instructor for instructors") on Adobe Premiere Pro. Encore, After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop.

More than fourteen years of my experience in the desktop publishing resulted in my decision to become an Adobe Certified Expert in the world's most advanced vector and raster graphics software—Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

When Final Cut X was introduced in June 2011, I started drifting away from Apple solutions towards competing platforms, particularly Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and later, SpeedGrade.

Autodesk Smoke on Mac user

Since Smoke on Mac came out it has my lively interest. I also wrote an article for Boston FCPUG SuperMag magazine (co-authoring with Zsolt Bezdan, Founder of Hungarian Final Cut Pro User Group).

Grass Valley EDIUS Prime Trainer

In 2013 I got certified on EDIUS 7 Pro, becaming a "Grass Cutter"—an EDIUS certified specialist. Greel Level corresponds to the End User level, and Silver Level means Trainer Level.

Designer & illustrator

I’ve worked as a Graphics Designer since 1996, before venturing into the world of film and video. But it doesn't mean I left the world of design forever, no. Once you got in, you never get out. It is just that the area of my interests shifted from pure graphics and design (including logo design) towards illustration and drawing. You can see it on my Artwork page and on my Flickr photostream.
